My review on Kimber Kim-Pro Tac Mags 45ACP

Today, Turners is having a one day sale of Kimber Kim-Pro Tac mags for $20, limit 2 per customer. I’ve heard that these were decent magazines, not Wilson Combat 47D or Tripp Research Cobra mag good, but good enough so I decided to stop by my local Turners to pick up 2. I got there and they only had one left so I picked it up and went home to put the medium base pad on. Here’s where the problem started…the metal piece that the base pads attach to aren’t tapped for the screws! I tried all 4 screws with both included base pads and metal magazine floor plates and none were threaded to accept the screws….fail on Kimber’s part. A quick YouTube search will yield results of other owners complaining of the same issue. Some called Kimber’s customer service to order floor plates that were threaded and some even went as far as to thread the floor plates on their own. One YouTube even posted that they damaged the threads on the provided screws trying to attach the base pad to the floor plate!

As for me, my solution is to simply return this mag and never buy one again. I guess this will come down the the old saying, you get what you pay for. I will be sticking to my Wilson 47D’s and Tripp Research Cobra mags, and maybe give the Chip McCormick Shooting stars/Power mags a shot too once I get my hands on them.

And as far as how well they fed and how reliable they were, I’m not even going to waste ammo on that. They couldn’t even provide me with floor plates that were threaded to accept the base pads and screws that it came with so I’m just going to return them and invest in another company’s 1911 magazine.
